Die Ruinen von Europa / The Ruins of Europe

Saturday 25.11.2017 | 17:30

hosted by Master-Studierende der Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien

In a European Union torn apart by several pro- and contra factions, facing a refugee crisis and
at the same time the rise of the right, daily bombed by a plethora of opinions, fast food
newsflashes and a continuous stream of images, a certain group of people resigns and looks at
it all from the sidelines. The modern day Ophelia is destructive, yet speaks in a cynical but
poetic manner about power, use and abuse. Experimental documentary based on Heiner
Müller’s Die Hamlet Maschine.

Ira A. Goryainova graduated in 2016 as a documentary director from the Brussels’ Royal
Institute for Theatre, Cinema & Sound and received greatest honor for her thesis work, Die
Ruinen von Europa. Currently she’s working on two feature films (documentary and fiction)
both in the frame of her PhD research in art, investigating interdisciplinary approaches in
audio-visual art.
